What to see in Saint-Malo?

  • Grand Aquarium de Saint-Malo: In this establishment located at the entrance of the corsair city, one comes to discover hundreds of marine species. It is one of the main tourist attractions in the region, welcoming some 360,000 visitors each year.
  • Grand-Bé: Located at the mouth of the Rance, this uninhabited island is easily accessible at low tide when it becomes a peninsula. Nature lovers and those looking for a peaceful natural setting can reach it from Bon Secours beach.
  • Fort National: The Fort National is located on an island in Saint-Malo, accessible at low tide. Classified as a historical monument since 1906, the building has played a major role in the military history of the corsair city and even of the country. Its previous names of “Fort Royal” and “Fort Impérial” bear witness to this.
  • Les Ateliers du Petit Bé: Many visitors take the time to go to the island of Petit Bé, located a stone’s throw from the city walls and the Grand Bé. Here you can discover a fort built in the 17th century which was part of the defensive belt designed by the Marquis of Vauban to defend the corsair city against English or Dutch attacks.
  • Saint-Vincent Cathedral: Listed as a historical monument, this ancient cathedral embodies the perfect marriage between the Gothic and Romanesque styles.
  • Tour Solidor: Also part of the French historic monuments, the Solidor Tower was used for the defence of the town and in particular to monitor the navigation of the estuary.

  • The ramparts of Saint-Malo: This granite wall built in the 12th century is one of the most emblematic jewels of the corsair city. It “tells”, with other fortifications, the military past of the city.
  • Cézembre: Cézembre is a coastal island located in the bay of Saint-Malo. Since at least the end of the 17th century, it has been used mainly for military purposes. During the Second World War, the Germans consolidated their defence lines there, enabling them to resist the American troops in August 1944 during the liberation of Saint-Malo.
  • Les Rochers sculptés: These works are those of Abbé Adolphe Julien Fouéré and are the best known jewels of outsider art in Brittany.
  • Demeure de Corsaire: This is a private mansion dating from the 18th century. The residence is now a reception area.
